‘De Holland’ in Dordrecht is a former office building of the NV Brandverzekering Maatschappij ‘Holland van 1959’. It was constructed in 1939 and designed by the architect Sybold van Ravesteyn, also known for the Rivierahal in the zoo Blijdorp, Rotterdam and former Central Station in Rotterdam. After the insurance company moved out, a supermarket and a homestore were located within the building. They both had a enormous and negative impact on the architecture of the building. At the time of the assignment De Holland is vacant.
The final bachelor assignment was to design a wellness centre in ‘De Holland’ according to a given program. The size of the program requires an extension of the building.
